Claritas Spotlight - Richard Hilton

Back to Blog

Here at Claritas, we like to shine our spotlight on the amazing staff we have, exploring their roles, their previous experience and who they are as a person – including their likes and dislikes on everything from food to travel!

Our latest spotlight features one of our newest recruits - Senior Pre-Sales Solutions Consultant, Richard Hilton.

We talk to Richard about his role at Claritas, what he enjoys most about his job and his love for travel and photography.

Tell us about your role at Claritas

I am aligned closely to the sales team, acting as technical support throughout the sales process. Generally, I talk to customers, both current and prospective, about their planned business outcomes. I then transpose these conversations in to costed, deliverable solutions, which the sales team use as the basis for customer proposals.

What prior experience do you have?

I’ve worked in I.T. for 36 years. I started as an I.T. Technician at Leeds College of Building after being there as a student. I initially wanted to be an architect, but the PC revolution brought the age of CAD and I quickly became interested in I.T.

I’ve worked in both the public and private sectors. I’ve also helped with the development of number of I.T. start-ups, managed large I.T. departments and I’ve been a CTO. Prior to joining Claritas, I worked for Hitachi in an EMEA role, as technical lead for the Unified Compute Platform for converged and hyperconverged infrastructure environments delivering Hybrid & Private Cloud solutions.

What would a normal day consist of?

Every day is different, but generally, I’ll be talking to customers and the sales team, writing customer Pre-Sales documents or learning/researching technology for solution delivery.

What is the thing you love most about your job?

I’ll have to change the question to things (plural). Talking to customers and discussing their plans, then helping to shape that to a delivered outcome. The only constant is change, there is always something new to learn.

Do you have any advice to give to others looking at a similar career?

You don’t have to know a lot about everything, you just need to know the people who know what you need. A wise man told me that a long time ago.

What do you enjoy doing when not at work?

Lots of things! Travel (remember that?) I have a campervan. Motorbikes and photography, which if you want to check out you can find at or on Instagram @richardhiltonphoto (don’t forget to follow!!).

Thanks for talking to us, Richard! It’s been great getting to know more about your role here at Claritas and we now know where to come if we need some professional photography.
